Artist Statement

I believe in fairy tales.

As children we are directly connected to the magical world of imagination where we respond to nature with pure unadulterated emotion. We look at nature and we feel with such intensity that our memories are colored with emotions that inspire us for the rest of our lives. As children, nature is so precious to us. As we grow older that link is severed and our access to nature’s beauty becomes encapsulated in childhood memories. My paintings awaken these memories through impressions of nature coupled with the expressive use of color and line to transport the viewer to those forgotten, romantic and serene places that only nature can inspire. The simplicty of a pine tree silhouette, the warmth of the sun, the coolness of the moon,  the texture of birch bark and the dancing reflection of light on the water; these are the moments that live within our hearts and awaken our inner beauty.  There is a simplicity in nature that matches the simplicity we yearn for in our own everyday lives. My paintings are portals to those places of wonder; those fairy tale places that we once knew as children and looking at them we have no choice but to dream.
